Opening concert of the Festival in Vilnius: ROGER MURARO

locationLithuanian National Philharmonic

M. K. Čiurlionis International Music Festival presents the legendary French pianist Roger Muraro. Lithuanian audiences have already been impressed by his performances more than once. R. Muraro can be confidently named as one of the best performers of music by French composers in the world. A laureate of international P. Tchaikovsky and F. Liszt competitions, R. Muraro is characterized by a phenomenal performance technique that always serves the poetic and spiritual revelation of musical images. The performer is welcome in the world's most famous concert halls and constantly works with today's most talented conductors and orchestras.
When French composer Olivier Messiaen heard his cycle "Twenty Glimpses of the Baby Jesus" performed by Muraro in 1988, the composer told him: "Thank you, Roger, for the beautiful, perfect performance of this very complex work! I admire your wonderful technique, artistry, sound quality, emotionality and especially religiosity!". R. Muraro is the first pianist in the world to perform the piece "Fauvettes de l'Hérault" by O. Messiaen, whose sketch the performer himself found in Paris, in the archives of the National Library. The premiere of the work took place in 2017, and the first record saw the light of day in 2018.
Roger Muraro was born in 1959, in Lyon, in a Venetian family. In his hometown, the musician began to learn to play the saxophone, and later the piano. At the age of nineteen, the pianist entered the Paris Conservatory, prof. Yvonne Loriod's class, where he met one of the most significant artists of the 20th century - O. Messiaen. R. Muraro quickly established himself as one of the most subtle performers interpreting the composer's work, and in 2001 released an album dedicated to the composer's work, which won unanimous recognition from critics.
Having previously performed the works of O. Messiaen and other French composers in Lithuania, this time R. Muraro will perform the works of M. K. Čiurlionis specially prepared for the festival, as well as pieces by R. Schumann, M. Ravel and M. de Falla.
